China (part 2) Shanghai, The people’s republic

November 18th, 2009

Finally been able to rummage through photos.  This is my second post on Shanghai the first one dealt with the close ups on objects and there will be plenty of those in the future. This second post has to deal with the people in shanghai from the night life, to the stark contrast in poverty and wealth that is quite obvious in the view from my hotel room.  This is still in Shanghai I will be posting Nanjin, Shuzhou, and Putuoshan in later parts.

Set to a tidbit of info:

The two Chinese characters in the name “Shanghai”, (, shàng; and , hǎi) literally mean “up, on, or above” and “sea” The earliest occurrence of this name dates from the Song Dynasty (11th century), at which time there was already a river confluence and a town with this name in the area.”

China (part 1) Shanghai, up close

September 19th, 2009

My intro into the photos I took while in the NE coast of china. With a potential trip to Hong Kong looming I feel I should start posting my last trip there. First off is a map of the places I visited. We start with Shanghai and some up close photos of interesting things there. Mind you the mountain photos might not be Shanghai but Fuji mountain in Japan but I feel its fitting seeing as it was on the way to Shanghai…

Set to lyrics:

“Oh, why did I tell you it was bye-bye for Shanghai
I’m even allergic to rice
Why don’t you stop me when I talk about Shanghai
It’s just a lover’s device”
