Just some sketches I recently found myself doing. Also a goodbye card I created for an coworker who was leaving that I think is pretty cute.
Set to lyrics:
Last of the ghetto astronauts:
It gets dark around here early
Sometimes the moon will follow you in the middle of the day
Waiting to be found, we were just standing around
With nothing really much to say
I didn’t know any better
You didn’t think that we should
Said we’re gonna burn down the night
I wanna be misunderstood
All four wheels across the pavement
We used to live in black and white
I only think about tomorrow so it’ll get me through the night
CHORUS
And I ain’t laughing and I ain’t joking anymore
I keep my footsteps to the ground
I keep my eyes glued to the floor
Somewhere in between only the stunners dream on this side of midnight
And maybe we’re just crazy
Maybe we’re better off dead
Maybe things will never change
Maybe you’ve got it backwards in your head
The Last of the Ghetto Astronauts won’t be ignored
Said I’m gonna go where no one has gone before
Said I’m gonna go where no one has gone before
Been walking with the giants
Been sleeping in a town without a name
Been holding on to your arms and legs
Your arms and legs cause
Nobody here wants to put you back together again
Together again, together again, together again

What you can’t do in Toronto is buy Leaf tickets and while in Chicago I managed to snag some Hawks vs. Leafs tix.

Vegas Odds: Toronto Maple Leafs 1.5 and the over/under 6
Offshore Sportsbooks Odds: Toronto Maple Leafs 1.5 and the betting total 6

Leafs lost unfortunately, but when you take a look at the date Friday Nov 13, 09 you can see why…

Pencil shaving can be fun too, likely some of my more conceptual work. My take on Pop Art its meant to make something that gets discarded seem interesting.

Here are a few sketches I created while being slightly bored. And in light of matthew good’s upcoming album “Vancouver” I pay homage to the ‘ray gun’ one of my favourite tracks from when he was in a band.
set to music lyrics:
“Shoot me with your ray gun
Full of holes so the day light can get to what’s dark”

So upon buying my niece some ice cream I noticed the design on the King Kone truck, and thought about the treats I liked as a kid. I wanted to also create something that looks vintage and fun. At first I thought of making something witty, I think thats why I left the fangs on the bear, but then I just wanted to conjure nostalgic thoughts on these items not to reinvent them but to create them as if I were from that period.
set to a quote:
“You can only be young once but you can always be immature”

Simple concept “art for arts sake”, most definitely something that I will be looking into.
Here is an image I created in tribute to this concept. It is not so much for the sake of art but for the sake of exploring art.
I was reminded by the lyrics from “the sword song” by : clap your hands and say yeah, a band I feel uses this concept when putting out new music, if you haven’t heard them you should for the sake of listening to something new at least….
set to lyrics:
There’s a man at the home where we are
Just a man like I am
Human head, human heart, insane
Armageddon in the same small step to heaven
He’s gone too far, too far
Now can you remember the last day
When no one had nothing left to say?
And everything stayed just the same
Stayed just the same
Your little mission wasn’t helping nobody?
Uh, didn’t it help you?
Well, now
Tell me father, don’t you bother now!
Here’s my head, here’s my sword!
Don’t you bother, don’t you bother now!
Here’s my head, here’s my sword!
- clap your hands and say yeah (the sword song)
